September 2021 Progress Report

July and August are potentially ‘slow’ months as so many people are either on holiday, managing parental responsibilities or chasing responses from those that are on holiday or managing parental responsibilities. It can be a vicious circle of frustratingly slow productivity! This however has not been the case at Together For Cinema, well, except for a week away camping in Wales!

Support for Together For Cinema continues to be forthcoming and there are many opportunities that are being presented to us. Some are quick and easy, some are more complex and need a great deal of attention and others are long slow burners that will take time to develop.

For the moment the key is to secure Together For Cinema, execute as much as we can and prepare for greater delivery in 2022 and beyond, and that is exactly where we are today.

As I write this the CEDIA Expo in the US closes it’s doors and it’s clear that we are a long way away from engaging like we used to. I look forward to attending the CEDIA Tech Summit on September 8th and also to exhibiting at EI Live! on September 29th and 30th and hope to see you there.

Keep well, and I thank you again for your trust and support.

Installation Update – 2022 and Beyond

Following an article in the Together For Short Lives newsletter to their 54 children’s hospices I have received several enquiries with requests for assistance. If there was any doubt of ‘the need’ for what Together For Cinema offers I think this simple exercise has further confirmed that what we’re doing is a good thing, and a much needed offering that makes a significant difference.

Therefore for 2022 and 2023 I am looking for installers to help project manage an installation in the following children’s hospices:-

  • Richard House Children’s Hospice, Beckton
  • Jigsaw, (part of Eden Valley Children’s Hospice), Carlisle
  • Ty Gobaith (part of Hope House Children's Hospice), Conwy
  • Robin House (part of CHAS), Glasgow
  • Ellenor House Children’s Hospice, Gravesend
  • Andy at St.Andrew’s Hospice, Grimsby
  • Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People, Loughborough
  • Hope House Children's Hospice, Oswestry
  • Helen and Douglas Children’s Hospice, Oxford
  • The Douglas Macmillan Hospice, Stoke-on-Trent

We will look to complete 5 installations in 2022, and another 5 in 2023, as well as lots of other good things that we’re currently working on.

Product Support

Little change here from our last update with a general willingness to support from AV product manufacturers and distributors. Lots of discussions and meetings continuing. I will continue to engage with as many relevant manufacturers and distributors as I can to make sure we have easy access to the

products required to complete the installations. However, more research and assistance is needed with regards to products such as seating, wall paneling and lighting effects

Installer Support

With ten new install locations looking for our assistance in the next couple of years I’m hoping that our appeal at the CEDIA Tech Summit and EI Live! in September will help to secure suitable installers to project manage and install the rooms. Please refer back to the previous page and do what you can to help…, thank you!

Media Support

We now have 5 official Media Partners, all committed to report on the progress being made at Together For Cinema. These are Essential Install, Hidden Wires, Inside CI, CE Pro and the Integrated Home Podcasts. We’re in contact with other media and I’m sure there will be more partners in due course.

Industry Support

As Of August 31st: Thank you to all who have helped Together For Cinema continue it’s good cause activity for 2021. We have now secured the revenue required for this first year and am optimistic that when renewals start in December we will quickly be able to secure our future for 2022.

The sooner this can be done, the sooner we can focus on getting the jobs done, and developing our other activities to further the difference that we can all make in our

community.

Sponsor Update

We were able to secure 33 sponsors for this year and I’m hopeful that all will continue their support into 2022. With new aspirations new expectations, and a full 12 month year in 2022 (we only budgeted for 10 in 2021) I believe we will need to secure a total of 42 sponsors, so if you’re not already sponsoring please help make it happen and contact me for a chat on how you can help.

To keep Together For Cinema going we need a little support from a lot of companies, and individuals, in our industry…, please be one of them…

Thank you to our sponsors for sending in your images holding the Together For Cinema Sponsor’s Plaque – you’ve all been’ Social Media’d’!

Other Developments

As Together For Cinema develops there are lots of opportunities that present themselves to us. It might be helping a hospice with an event, the offer of some discontinued stock or thoughts on a fundraising event. Outlined below are just a few of these…

  • The Bluebells in Basingstoke

Having already installed in The Bluebells in 2017, I was contacted by their CEO, Jane Gates, to help with supplying the AV equipment for their children’s Remembrance Day service on September 12th. This we have done and Graham Smith from Samsung and I will attend on the day to set up and break down the equipment to ensure a sensitive delivery to their audience.

  • Discontinued Stock

We have been offered a large amount of discontinued stock by a major manufacturer and we are in final negotiations to secure this and ensure storage and distribution. More to follow but this a potential donation of well into 6 figures…

  • The AV User Group

I’m delighted to announce a new Operational Partnership with the AV User Group. Initially it is mutually beneficial channel of communication to our respective audiences, but we are in discussion on various other ideas.

  • Fundraising Plans

We are in discussion with three different organisations with regards to fundraising plans and/or events. The willingness to support Together For Cinema is clear and I will tell you more when I can.

  • Cisco and Together For Short Lives – Possible Collaboration

Watch this space…! This is a slow burner but I’m hugely optimistic it will happen!

Other Developments

6 months into the new Together For Cinema structure and we are without doubt on track to achieve our goals and expectations for our first year as an AV industry good cause enterprise. Sponsored, supported, steered and cradled by our industry, Together For Cinema is our channel to give a little of what we do back to those who need it most, who will appreciate it the most and to whom it will make the most difference.

We can identify three main developments confirming that Together For Cinema is a ‘pure and unquestionable good’ and has a long term future in our industry. These are as follows:-

  1. There is a clear industry willingness and desire to invest in the future of Together For Cinema with both product and financial support, as well as generic support.
  2. There is a clear need and desire from children’s hospices and other deserving venues to secure our offering of a donated cinema room facility.
  3. There is undoubted opportunity to further our delivery to good causes and become a conduit between both the Residential and Commercial AV industries and community good causes.
